This is Not the Update You Were Looking For

I haven’t made a Substack post in so long I kinda forget how to do it. The buttons are never where you seemed to leave them these days on most social media sites. But that said, I’ve been pretty distracted. It’s hard to post missives about remix albums and cool shows you just played when you’re going through heartbreak. I often skirt the line between updates about music and personal blog on here but for some reason I feel like I need to yell something to the rooftops real quick. It’s at least better than posting a vague selfie with a caption like “I’m so sad haha”, something I just did and then deleted immediately.

I’ve been going through a breakup. I say ‘going through’ but at this point a lot of the major milestones have passed: I’ve written a banger about it, gotten into a new video game, cried a lot while driving around the city of Los Angeles, reignited and invested in many dormant friendships and spent a bit of time dating. But the thing they don’t tell you about breakups of 5+ year relationships is that they just drag on and on, and each time another emotional plane hits the second tower of memories, you get to relive the feelings over and over again like some unholy merry-go-round. And, especially once you’ve gone no contact, everything you once shared with that person becomes a cursed amulet ready to knock you the fuck out when it pops up in your brain.

I’ll have a better update soon. I’m working on a new album that I feel is my best ever and all the heartache has made me promise myself to finish it by the end of the year. So we’ll see how far I get! Thanks for reading my emo shit :)
